Radisson Hotel Group Meets Targeted Responsible Business Milestones

Radisson Hotel Group remains committed to its corporate responsibility goals as outlined in the 2020 Responsible Business Report, including reducing the company’s carbon and water footprint by 30 percent by 2025, aligning with science-based emission reductions, eliminating single-use plastics, and continuing to drive responsible consumer behavior. 2021 marked a year of milestones and initiatives in the three pillars of Think People, Think Community and Think Planet.

Carbon Negative and Neutral Encounters: Since 2019, Radisson Hotel Group has set the industry standard for carbon-neutral meetings, offsetting the carbon footprint of every meeting and event at its hotels around the world at no cost to delegates or organizers. In 2021, the Group launched its Carbon Negative, Planet Positive initiative to make meetings and events at over 400 hotels in its EMEA portfolio carbon negative by offsetting twice the CO2 emissions. Since 2019, the group has offset more than 30,300 tons of CO2 from meetings and events at no cost to customers.

Responsible consumption and supply chain associations: In 2021, Radisson Hotel Group announced two electric mobility partnerships. The first partnership is with Allego, a pan-European provider with the goal of bringing electric vehicle charging solutions to all of Radisson Hotel Group’s European properties by 2025, and a second partnership with Sunfuel in India, with the goal of equipping the more than 100 Radisson Hotel Group properties in the country with EV charging stations.

As part of the group’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Radisson Hotel Group launched the Radisson Hotels Security Protocol at all hotels, combined with third-party validation by SGS, as 234 hotels achieved the additional security from Safehotels.

The group was also recognized as an EcoVadis Silver Level Sustainable Business and signed an agreement with Ecovadis to apply the rating to its global supply chain. In 2021, Radisson Hotel Group has partnered with Too Good To Go to reduce food waste and redistribute surplus food from hotels across Europe.

Global Sustainability: In cooperation between the World Travel & Tourism Council, the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance and leading hotel companies, the Core Sustainability framework was launched in late 2021 as a non-competitive initiative to raise the global core level of hotel sustainability. Radisson Hotel Group supports the launch of the Core Sustainability Framework, which provides an accessible starting point for hotel sustainability for all hotels around the world. Providing hotels around the world with these common measures will positively impact the planet and drive change by stimulating demand for responsible travel. The full framework is currently under development and will be released in March 2022.

Responsible Company Awards: Last year, Radisson Hotel Group received several accolades, including Spain’s first LEED Hospitality Gold certification for the Radisson Collection Hotel, Magdalena Plaza Sevilla, which runs on renewable energy and consumes 40 percent less water than the benchmark building.

“Throughout the pandemic, customers continue to look for sustainable travel options. Since the COP26 summit, climate change mitigation has become even more important in business strategies and in everyone’s mind. Sustainability is a top priority for our industry and our customers. At Radisson Hotel Group, we continue to work on our roadmap to Net Zero and are proud of the milestones we have achieved in a challenging year for our industry. 2021 marked an opportunity to build on our focus on responsible business initiatives both for our Group and collectively for the hospitality industry. We look forward to another year of building strong strategic partnerships as we all work toward a responsible recovery and return to travel,” says Inge Huijbrechts, Global Senior Vice President, Sustainability, Safety and Corporate Communications, Radisson Hotel Group.
